Network troubleshooting

Play Guess and Reveal relies on a local connection between the Host's device and the players' devices. If you run into a connection problem, here are solutions to the most common issues.

Can't find the Host's session

If you are a player and the radar search detects no game:

  1. Check the Wi-Fi network — The Host and all players must be connected to exactly the same Wi-Fi network. Beware of "Guest" networks, which often block communication between devices.
  2. Local network permissions — On first launch, iOS asks for permission to access the local network. If you denied it:
    • Go to your device's Settings.
    • Look for Play Guess and Reveal.
    • Turn on the Local Network option.
  3. The Host's role — The Host must be in the "Waiting Room" for their session to be visible. If they are still in the game settings or have already started the first track, the session may not appear.

Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth

The app mainly uses the Wi-Fi network, but can fall back to Bluetooth if necessary.

  • Wi-Fi recommended — This is the fastest and most stable mode. It allows perfect synchronization of buzzers and screens.
  • Bluetooth fallback — If no Wi-Fi network is available (for example outdoors), the connection can be established over Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on all devices and that the players are close to the Host. This mode may, however, introduce a slight latency.

Disconnection during a game

If a player loses their connection during a Round:

  1. The device will try to reconnect automatically.
  2. If that fails, the player can return to the home screen and tap Join a Game again.
  3. If they use the same nickname, the Host will keep their score history.

As a Host, you can monitor the state of the connections through the Game Log. Disconnections and reconnections are reported there in real time.
