HtkCloudSync — Your files, on both sides
HtkCloudSync is a native Ubuntu application that keeps a folder on your computer identical to your Google Drive, both ways. Change a file on one side and find it on the other; choose which folders live on the computer and leave the rest in the cloud. A service keeps syncing with the window closed, and an indicator in the system tray tells you where the sync stands.
Key features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Both ways | What changes on the computer goes to the cloud, what changes in the cloud lands on the computer. Renames and moves are understood, not downloaded again |
| Your folders, not all of them | Tick the cloud folders to keep on the computer; the others wait in the cloud without using your disk |
| A safe first sync | A new account downloads nothing until you have chosen your folders; the app compares the selection with the free space before starting |
| Nothing gets lost | A file changed on both sides keeps both versions; a deletion always goes through the trash, on both sides; a mass deletion waits for your confirmation |
| Google documents | Docs, Sheets and Slides become small link files that open the document in your browser |
| Google Drive trash | See how much it weighs and empty it from the app, after confirmation |
| Always readable | One overall status, an activity log file by file, useful notifications and a system tray indicator |
| Several accounts | A work account and a personal one, each with its own local folder |
| Command line | Everything the window does can also be driven from a terminal |
Privacy
HtkCloudSync collects nothing. Your files only travel between your computer and your Google account: HTKapp runs no intermediate server and receives neither usage statistics nor error reports. The one exception, once a day and only once an account is connected: the application asks htkapp.com which version is the latest published one, without any identifier or information about your accounts or files; the “Check for updates” setting turns it off. You authorise the application on Google's own sign-in page, in your browser, and that sign-in is kept in your session's keyring. You can revoke it at any time: the Disconnect button in the app, or the connected-applications page of your Google account. Google has not verified HtkCloudSync yet: the Adding an account page explains the warning it shows in the meantime.
