Sessions
A session is a stock in its own right: its locations, its categories, its products and their batches. "Personal" for home, "Work" for the workshop, "Cabin" for the second home — the app shows one at a time, and nothing gets mixed.
To begin with there is only one, Personal, holding everything you already had. Until you create another, nothing changes.
Knowing where you are
The Stock and Alerts tabs' titles always name the session shown: "Stock: Personal", "Alerts: Personal" — the same header on both sides, with the search field.
Switching sessions
Tap the title of the Stock tab or the Alerts tab: the menu lists your sessions, the current one ticked. Pick another — the stock, alerts, locations and categories are that session's.
Creating, renaming, deleting
Options › Sessions, or "Manage Sessions…" in the title menu.
- Add a Session (TrackInvent Pro — the free version holds a single session) asks for its name and that of its first location — a stock with nowhere to put things cannot receive anything — and offers, off by default, the Food categories switch: on, the session is born with the sixty or so kitchen aisles (see Categories). The new session becomes the one shown.
- A swipe or a long press on a session renames or deletes it. Deleting takes everything it holds, after a confirmation that counts products, locations and categories. The last session cannot be deleted.
Moving a product from one session to another
In the Stock, a long press on the item › Move to Session, or multiple selection › Move › To another session. The product leaves with its batches: each goes to the location with the same name there, or the first one; the category is reused, or created. If the destination session already has that product — same code, or else same name — the batches join it.
What stays shared
- Reminders cover every session: the stock you are not looking at is exactly the one that expires unseen. With several sessions, a reminder names its own.
- Backups hold every session; a backup made before sessions existed is restored into a single session.
- CSV export and CSV import work on the session shown.
- Settings (colours, thresholds, assistant sentences) belong to the app.
- Each session shows, under its product count, its stock value (price × quantity) as soon as a product has a price.
- A barcode is looked up in the session shown: the same product in two sessions is two products.
What about iCloud?
Sessions sync between your devices like everything else. If two devices move to this version separately, each creates its own "Personal" session; as soon as iCloud brings them together, the app merges them into one, losing nothing.
Sharing a session
(TrackInvent Pro to invite; taking part is free.)
A session can be shared with other people — the family for the fridge, the team for the stockroom: a living stock for several people, where everyone sees and edits the same thing.
Options › Sessions, swipe the session (or long-press) › Sharing › Invite Participants…: the iOS share sheet sends a link through Messages, Mail or any app. Both sides need an iCloud account.
On the invited person's device, the link opens TrackInvent; the session appears in Options › Sessions with the "shared with you" icon, and in the title menu. They can do everything there — add products, locations, categories, consume, adjust — just like in their own sessions; changes travel through iCloud, both ways, within seconds. A received session does not count towards the free version's limits.
Sharing carries everything the session contains — locations, categories, products, batches, photos — and nothing else: your other sessions, settings and backups stay with you. A received session is not part of your backups either: its owner keeps it.
To see who takes part, remove someone or stop sharing: Sharing › Manage Sharing…, then the system's options. A participant can also Leave the Share: the session disappears from their device, the owner keeps everything. A received session cannot be renamed or deleted — you leave it.
The PDF report (TrackInvent Pro)
Swipe a session (or long-press) › Report: its inventory as a PDF, in A4 pages — location by location, each batch with its category, quantity, date (a star marks a best-before date) and value; at the top, the number of products and batches and the stock value; "Opened on" under opened batches. Batches at zero are left out. Share sends it wherever you like, Print goes through AirPrint; the file also stays in Files › TrackInvent › Exports. For insurance, the year-end inventory, or the stockroom door.
