Visual routines

Visual routines break an activity down into successive steps, shown one at a time, large on the screen. They help structure the repetitive moments of the day (getting up, going to bed, leaving for school) without having to explain everything each time.

They open from the main screen (Grids button or long press → Routines).

Running a routine

The screen shows the current step: a large colored card with its icon (or your own picture) and its text. Above it, a marker shows the progress ("Step 2 of 5") along with a row of dots.

  • Tap the card when the step is done: the app moves to the next step and announces it aloud.
  • Back returns to the previous step.
  • Repeat reads the current step aloud again.

After the last step, a congratulation screen appears with a Start over button. Completing the routine is recorded in the history, so a caregiver can check later that it was carried through.

Every step change is announced by the speech synthesizer (when sound is enabled) and accompanied by a vibration, just like the other grids.

Creating and editing a routine

Routines are managed in Settings → Visual Routines — behind the caregiver lock when it is enabled.

From that list you can add a routine (the + button), delete one (swipe) or reorder them (the Edit button).

Opening a routine lets you set its name and the list of its steps, shown as a numbered sequence: one line per step, with its icon (or your picture) and its text. This is where you add a step (Add a step — its screen opens right away to pick the icon and the text), delete one (swipe) or reorder them (the Edit button).

Tap a step to open it. Its screen shows a preview of the card at the top, as the user will see it — tap it to hear it — and then:

  • a free text;
  • an icon out of twelve (toilet, wash, brush teeth, eat, drink, get dressed, sleep, medicine, school, play, go outside, transport), all shown at once, the chosen one in colour;
  • if you want, a picture from your library.

Changes are saved as you type: there is no "Save" button to forget.

If you leave a step's text empty, the step falls back to the translated label of its icon. That is the simplest way to get a routine that reads correctly in every language the app supports.

On first use

The app ships with a Morning Routine (toilet → wash → brush teeth → get dressed → eat). It is only an example: rename it, change its steps or delete it as you see fit.
