FAQ
Frequently asked questions about using FST.
Does the app require an internet connection?
No. FST works entirely offline. All grids, customizations, images, and history are stored locally on the device. No account or sign-up is required.
Are my customizations kept if I reinstall the app?
FST stores all your data (labels, images, settings, history) locally only on the device. The app does not have built-in iCloud sync.
As a result:
- If you delete and reinstall the app from the App Store, your customizations and history are lost.
- They are restored only if you restore the entire device from a backup (device iCloud Backup, or a backup made via a computer), since FST's data is included in the device-wide backup.
Before uninstalling the app, export a backup (Settings → Backup & Restore): the file holds settings, routines and pictures, and restores on any device. The history is not in it; it is shared separately, as CSV, from the Log screen. See the Backup and History sections.
Text-to-speech isn't working
Check that:
- The device volume is high enough and the device is not in silent mode.
- The Sound option is enabled in the app: Settings (gear icon) → Sound.
- A voice is installed on the device — you can download one via iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
- The voice speed is not set to an awkward extreme: adjust the slider in Settings → Speech rate.
The voice automatically uses the system language.
Can the app be used by several users on the same device?
Currently, FST does not offer multiple profiles. Customizations (labels, images, settings) are shared by all users of the device.
How do I reset the customizations?
FST does not have a "reset everything" button. Restoring defaults is done manually, in Settings:
- Labels: clear a button's text field to restore its default label.
- Images: use the delete action (trash icon) on the image row to go back to the default icon.
- History: use Delete all in the Log screen (see the History section).
How can I stop the person from opening or changing the settings?
Turn on Caregiver Lock in Settings → Caregiver section. Access to Settings (labels, images, themes, history) is then protected by a small addition to solve. The option is off by default. See the Customization section.
How do I trigger and stop the emergency alert?
Tap the red triangle button at the bottom of the main screen to trigger the alert (full-screen flash + looping voice announcement). To stop it, tap anywhere on the flashing screen. See the Emergency alert section.
Is the app suitable for color blindness?
Yes. Settings offer themes for Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia, which recompute the colors of the buttons and the pain scale to keep them distinct. See the Accessibility & themes section.
Which devices does FST run on?
FST works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Importing custom images from settings is available only on iOS (iPhone / iPad).
