Customization

The Settings screen (gear icon, top of the main screen) lets you adapt FST to each user: sound and tactile feedback, voice speed, button labels and images. All settings are stored locally on the device.

Caregiver lock (protect the settings)

To prevent the person using the app from changing the configuration by accident, you can protect access to Settings with a small math problem.

• In Settings → Caregiver section, turn on Caregiver Lock.
• Once enabled, opening Settings first shows a small addition to solve (for example "4 + 7 = ?"). The settings appear only after a correct answer.
• If the answer is wrong, a new problem is shown.
• To turn the protection off, open Settings (by solving the problem) and disable the option.

The lock is off by default. It is a simple barrier meant to avoid accidental changes, not password-grade security.

Sound and vibration

• Sound — turns the spoken reading (text-to-speech) of labels and of the typed message on or off. The emergency alert stays audible whatever this setting.
• Vibration (haptics) — turns tactile feedback on or off when making selections.

To stay audible even in silent mode, the app configures audio for spoken playback; the emergency sound and announcements remain perceptible in a care context.

Voice speed

A slider, right under the Sound switch and greyed out when it is off, sets the reading speed of the text-to-speech, from Slow to Fast — a range deliberately bounded to what stays intelligible, from half to one-and-a-half times the normal pace. The voice automatically uses the system language.

Theme (color accessibility)

A Theme selector lets you choose a color-blind-friendly mode:

• System (default colors)
• Protanopia
• Deuteranopia
• Tritanopia

Customizing the grid buttons

The settings are grouped by grid — Yes / No, Now / Later / Maybe, Needs, Emotions — with one row per button holding both its label and its picture.

The label

Each row carries a text field, with the default word shown as its placeholder. Leaving the field empty keeps the default label, translated in every language. The label you enter is also the one that will be read aloud upon selection.

The picture (iOS)

On iPhone and iPad, you can replace a button's icon with your own photo or image to create familiar visual cues (for example a photo of a glass for "Drink").

1. Tap Select Image on the button's row to choose it from your photo library.
2. The image is shown as a preview and is immediately used in the corresponding grid.
3. To go back to the default icon, use the delete action (trash icon) on the row.

Customizable images cover: Yes / No, Now / Later / Maybe, the Needs (Drink, Eat, Toilet, Rest), and the Emotions (Happy, Sad, Angry, Pain). Imported images are stored locally on the device, reduced to at most 1,600 pixels on their long side — enough for the largest display, the routine card on an iPad.

On macOS, importing images from the settings screen is not available; only already-defined images are shown as previews.
