Communication boards
Yes / No
The simplest board: two large, contrasting buttons to quickly answer any closed question. Ideal for starting a conversation or confirming a need.
Needs
Four buttons covering fundamental needs:
- Drink — ask for something to drink
- Eat — express hunger
- Toilet — express a physiological need
- Rest — signal tiredness or the need to rest
Emotions
Four main emotional states:
- Happy — express joy or well-being
- Sad — signal sadness
- Angry — express frustration or anger
- Pain — indicate physical pain (to be combined with the pain scale)
Time
Three simple time concepts:
- Now — immediate action or need
- Later — postpone in time
- Maybe — uncertainty or possibility
Numbers (1 to 5)
Five numbered buttons to quantify, choose between options, or answer a multiple-choice question. The caregiver asks a question and the user picks the number matching their answer.
Pain scale (0 to 10)
An interactive visual slider that goes from green (0 — no pain) to red (10 — maximum pain). The user drags the slider to the level that matches their pain. The numeric value is shown large and can be read aloud.
This board is especially useful in medical or hospital settings.
